Guys,

I got a wierd problem with my Ultra-2. This box has a pair of 300MHz Blackbird processors, 2GB of memory, 18GB hard disk, and a crummy cgsix video adapter. The problem is that it does boot ino 2.6.17 perfectly, but the display actually goes blank and there's no output. I can ssh into the box and everything looks fine apart from there being absoutely nothing at all on the display.

I can see SILO loading on the machnie, but as soon as it boots Linux, the display goes blank. I tried appending "video=cgsix" to the kernel parameters but that did not work. The cgsix driver is definitely compiled into the kernel, I can see it in the dmesg output, and also in /proc/fb - it's a TGX+.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I just rebooted again and caught a message which said something about going into PROM mono, something like that. What's that? Should I be using something like video=sbus?

Thanks.

Not that weird. I've had that problem with all our Ultra80 machines from:

2.6.12-r[15]
2.6.16-r[16]
2.6.17-r[24578]

Video has never worked for us on those machines with the exception of one Ultra80 with an Elite3d (afb) running 2.6.17-r8

My suggestion is to:

Code:
enable:
support for frame buffer devices
CGsix (GX,TurboGX) support
Framebuffer Console support

disable:
PROM console

You are absolutely 100% correct, disabling the PROM console solved my problem! Thanks anyway, I'm falling in love with it the more I use it. Now what can I do with 2GB of memory?!
