|
|
Hello. I am a gentoo newbie. I have a problem with opening gnome session.
Situation:
I was changing theme at gnome-theme-manager, and customizing clearlooks.
As soon as I clicked "default" item at some tab, I guess it was "Icon theme" but not sure, gnome-panel was closed and gnome-theme-manager was also closed. My desktop showed no items. Shortcuts were not working, either. After restarting the system, gnome-session was not opened. It just stopped showing gnome logo. So I backed up ~/.gnome, ~/.gnome2, ~/.themes directories and removed them. It didn't help me.
Whenever I start some gnome apps such as gnome-theme-manager, it says...
Code: | (gnome-theme-manager:8421): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme file for aero has no directories
(gnome-theme-manager:8420): capplet-common-WARNING **: Received EOF while reading thumbnail for gtk: 'Clearlooks', metacity 'Clearlooks', icon: 'gnome', font: 'Sans 10'
(gnome-theme-manager:8420): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme file for aero has no directories
(bug-buddy:8423): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme file for aero has no directories
|
I think if I change gnome-theme setting properly, gnome-session will be opened. But I cannot start gnome-theme-manager and I have no idea where the configuration file is.
Addition::
gdm is working well. I can open xterm session safe mode which I am on now.

hmm... IIRC theme manager stores the config in GConf, you can try to log in a safe mode gnome session and edit it. |

Bingo! Thank you so much!
Though I couldn't log in a safe mode gnome session, I could edited the following file on xterm safe mode.
Code: | ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/interface/%gconf.xml |
I could see "gtk_theme" set as "aero", so I changed it to "Clearlooks". Rebooting my system, everything's working well now. |
