Recently purchasing a Zalman 300watt psu for a more quiet box, I was wondering what you quiet junkies recommend for my athlon tbird (socket A) cpu fan (currently a thermaltake volcano 5). Right now it sounds like it has a bigger engine than my car.
Note: My athlon is rated at 1101MHz (it gets me by)

You failed to mention what mhz rating you tbird is. I have a cheap 60x80mm coolermaster hs with one of those plastic funnels and a 80mm panaflow on my tbird 750. It's very quiet and it does fine as far as heat, 46~52C. But what's fine on a 750 might cook a 1200. On my xp 1700 I have a zalman 6000-AlCu using the 92mm fan that came with it at ~2000rpm and it works like a charm. That has got to be one of the most fragile hs ever made though. And it isn't rated as highly as some of the all copper models. But I don't have to worry about destroying my proc just by moving my pc either. |
