I had successfully installed Gentoo on my Ultra 5 in the past.
One thing that I wanted, however, was more disk space, so I upgraded the disk drive (on board IDE) to a larger size.
I've had problems building the system since, as it appears that the IDE controller becomes unstable under load and I get disk corruption during build attempts.
Are there any particular settings that I should give to the kernel (or via hdparm) to prevent this problem during the build?? |

Maybe unmaskirq causes the problem.
hdparm -u0 /dev/xxx |

Ultra 5/10 machines have a buggy IDE controller, if you enable DMA you'll have corruption problems.
It is also possible to get corruption problems if you use the more untested and known to have issues filesystem formats such as xfs, jfs and reiser. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias
