im trying to get frame buffers to work on my laptop which has a nvidia geforce 2 go, so far i have tried following the howto at linuxdocs.org but it is horribly out of date. Thus far i have the follow options selected in the kernel
i've included frame buffer support, the vesa vga graphics console driver, advanced low level drivers, 8,16,24,32 bpp packed pixels support, vga character/attributes support, support only 8 pixels wide fonts, and i selected the following compiled in fonts vga 8x8 and vga 8x16.

when i boot into this kernel it doesnt load any graphic up and it doesnt create /dev/fb/0 .

if anyone has any advice on this please tell me for i have no idea of what to do any more

Hi,

I am using the frame buffer device for my geforce 2go (currently using linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r1)... :-)

under console drivers I'm using:
Code:
[*] VGA text console
[*] Video mode selection support

under frame buffer support:
Code:
[*] Support for frame buffer devices (EXPERIMENTAL)
...
[*]   VESA VGA graphics console

Do not (repeat not) set anything else - things seem to break if you specify a font or any other settings.

For GRUB's menu.lst I am using:
Code:
kernel /kernel-2.4.20-r1 root=/dev/hda6 vga=788 video=vesa:ywrap,mtrr

Good luck. Have fun. ;-)
