hi
i've used many wifi cards with linux:
atheros based (pci), with madwifi drivers (or madwifi-ng)... succes
prism54 based (pcmcia), with stock kernel drivers... success
ralink cards (pci) etc
now i have a Senao pcmcia that is a prism2 chipset. (the model 2511 or something similar, with 200mw)
well...
pcmcia is working, because with a prism54 card IT WORKS
i want now the prism2 card
i've compiled the support for hostap in the 2.6.18-gentoo kernel and after 'modprobe hostap_cs'
i can't see any cards with ifconfig -a (should i see wlan0). dmesg tells me nothing
i see that with backtrack livecd there is the scripts 'switch-to-wlan-ng' and 'switch-to-hostap'
what i have to use ???? only wlan-ng or only hostap or all the two???
wlan-ng from portage doesn't compile with newer kernels
hostap from kernel-sources doesn't work
hostap-driver from portage works ONLY with kernels < 2.6.14
PS:
with the LIVECD i get any output from 'lspcmcia'
with my gentoo i get NOTHING!!! (but if i instert the prism54 card, i see it)
why? does this damn card need a firmware to be uploaded?
i need an howto _________________ Intel 975XBX, Core 2 Duo E6600, 4Gb DDR2, 4x 74Gb SATA 10000 RAID-0, Geforce 6600 - /dev/mapper/isw_raid0: Timing buffered disk reads: 812 MB in 3.00 seconds = 270.30 MB/sec |
