I installed the above version through portage and in my 32 bit chroot. But, opengl games in the chroot segfault. Even glxgears does (strace seemingly unhelpful). 32 bit apps like firefox go just fine. If I reboot into the 32 bit chroot (32 bit kernel) the games work fine then.
So I downgraded both my 64 and 32 bit systems to 9629, and things work. Just to complicate things I also run xgl/compiz/xlaunch - if any of those matter. Do other 32 chrooters have this issue with nvidia version 9742? |

I have 9742 installed on my 64 bit system (no 32 bit chrrot) and so far have not had any problems. I run FlightGear on my system and have gone flying a couple of times using the new video driver in my P-51 and it is working fine. |

Thanks for the reply - I didn't mention I could play 64 bit ut2004 no worries (via xlaunch) on 9742. It was only 32 bit opengl programs giving me grief. I might build glxgears manually with debug symbols to see where it crashes on me... |

As of 9629, you don't even need xstart or anything to run GL programs if you're using XGL. Just don't use XGL and follow this howto: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_nVidia_GL_Desktop_Effects _________________ Kernel 2.6.17-beyond3 AMD64 |
