Hi,
Following problems trying to emerge openoffice 2.03, I've tried the 2.04 as this seesm to be the only other version in portage. It gets about four hours through (Centino 2ghz 1gb mem 4.5gb free on /) and I get the following error. As you can see it tries to change the permissions on the file, but the file is a symoblic link to a file which doesn't exist. I presume this is a problem in the program itself rather than the ebuild, but any ideas anyone?

Are they any specific reason want to compile it ? If not try openoffice-bin and see how that goes.

So you don't think it's remotely troubling that the only two ebuilds of a main package are broken? Also, 2.04 pulls in the Boost libraries, so compilation would make a difference. I'm wondering if anyone knows the e-mail of the ebuild author.

I'm having the exact same problem....still stuck myself and looking for a solution.

I've seen one post suggesting commenting out a line in one of the files used in the emerge, but, have not found if that is for this same exact problem....

Still looking...

I've compiled Openoffice 2.04 with success last week. But those devs are changing ebuilds all the time without bumping the versions. I'll check if it still builds here. Brb.

B.T.W. I'm using these use FLAGS.
app-office/openoffice-2.0.4 USE="branding cairo cups dbus firefox java kde odk sound -binfilter -debug -eds -gnome -gstreamer -gtk -ldap -pam -webdav"

BrummieJim,

Quote:

Hmm, that might not be enough.
Keep an eye on your free space as it builds. I recommend 5Gb free to build OOo

cayenne,

Lets see your USE flags as they apply to Open Office.
Code:
emerge -vp openoffice
will show that. I have
Code:
 [ebuild   R   ] app-office/openoffice-2.0.4  USE="cairo cups dbus eds firefox gnome gstreamer gtk pam -binfilter -branding -debug -java -kde -ldap -odk -sound -webdav" LINGUAS="en en_GB en_US -af -ar -be_BY -bg -bn -bs -ca -cs -cy -da -de -el -en_ZA -es -et -fa -fi -fr -gu_IN -he -hi_IN -hr -hu -it -ja -km -ko -lt -mk -nb -nl -nn -nr -ns -pa_IN -pl -pt -pt_BR -ru -rw -sh_YU -sk -sl -sr_CS -st -sv -sw_TZ -th -tn -tr -ts -vi -xh -zh_CN -zh_TW -zu"

Many USE flags are set in your profile. To see all your USE flags look at the output of emerge --info

You need to alter ebuild a bit. Find line
Code:

# Fix the permissions for security reasons
    chown -R root:root ${D} || die

and get rid of that || die.
You may consider moving altered ebuild to overlay to preserve changes, so that they wont dissapear during next emerge --sync

Ok..tried this.
And then, per another post tried to run this:

Code:
ebuild /usr/portage/app-office/openoffice/openoffice-2.0.4.ebuild install

It blew up with:

Code:
* checking ebuild checksums ;-) ...                                                                                  [ !! ]

!!! Digest verification failed:
!!! /usr/portage/app-office/openoffice/openoffice-2.0.4.ebuild
!!! Reason: Filesize does not match recorded size
!!! Got: 9740
!!! Expected: 9668

Now...I can't even try to emerge openoffice anymore...same error about filesizes not matching.

Any further suggestions please?

Thanks in advance,

cayenne

cayenne,

Everything needed to build a package is made tamper proof by distributing md5sum and file sizes for all the files.
When you tamper - you have to fix this.

Do
Code:
ebuild /full/path/to/ebuild digest
to recreate the digest. Now it will all match and the emerge will run.

Anytime you change an ebuild you'll need to run ebuild <name of the ebuild> digest before you can use that ebuild for emerging.

Damn, I wish I'd known about the digest thing, I added comment chars to build the file back up (before I realised about the manifest), then copied the checksums out of the failed emerge back into the manifest. doh. I'll remember for next time:)

Thanks for the info on the digests!!

Well, I did all this...and it *looks* like it ran...but, I cannot find the binaries anywhere...like it really didn't install.

There is no /usr/lib/openoffice directory.....

cayenne,

It looks like it put loads of things into
Code:
>>> Completed installing openoffice-2.0.4 into /var/tmp/portage/openoffice-2.0.4/image/
but didn't complete.

I can do you a binary for Athlon-XP with the following settings[
Code:
ebuild   R   ] app-office/openoffice-2.0.4  USE="cairo cups dbus eds firefox gnome gstreamer gtk pam -binfilter -branding -debug -java -kde -ldap -odk -sound -webdav" LINGUAS="en en_GB en_US -af -ar -be_BY -bg -bn -bs -ca -cs -cy -da -de -el -en_ZA -es -et -fa -fi -fr -gu_IN -he -hi_IN -hr -hu -it -ja -km -ko -lt -mk -nb -nl -nn -nr -ns -pa_IN -pl -pt -pt_BR -ru -rw -sh_YU -sk -sl -sr_CS -st -sv -sw_TZ -th -tn -tr -ts -vi -xh -zh_CN -zh_TW -zu" 4

Compiled with
Code:
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
i686-pc-linux-gnu-4.1.1
sys-libs/glibc-2.5
Drop me a PM if you want the tarball

I'm back to say it builds without any problems here.

I respectfully disagree...I was never able to get it to compile and successfully install no matter what I've tried so far. This is definitely not solved yet.

I believe I had the same problem, and after taking off the "|| die" I could build OOo. Are you sure you are having the same problem?
