OK. Please let me know if I'm right here...

CD boot and Silo starts up.
Boots from compiled gentoo kernel provided on CD.
RAMDISK is created (with contents from supplied image).
Gentoo starts up using mounted RAMDISK image.

Is this right?

If I've got an existing gentoo installation, how easy is it to modify files etc on this image and create a new image to use in Silo as the ramdisk?

What I'm doing at the moment is installing gentoo on a separate sparc box. Then I'm going to try and build a live CD from this? Is this right?

Can I amend what I want (i.e. write shell scripts etc) and then process this as an initrd to go a live CD?
