Hi,
Like everybody else (i guess), i use the internet as the only way to update programs in gentoo. When I used portage and saw it just download the next package only after having finished compling the previous one, i came up with this: why dont people make it save more time by downloading those sources during compilation? If so, that would shorten the whole process considerably, esp when it comes to big packages with a lot of "dependencies" like Gnome, KDE, etc. Over here I have my internet with a modest speed of 30KB/s and it took me 10 hours to compile gnome-light, which consisted of a hundred something packages with it.
I dont know if this idea is right or wrong. Hope you guys will help me figure it out. Thank you |
