I am trying to emerge gnome on a newly installed machine, and it fails at librsvg-2.14.4, saying:

Call stack:
ebuild.sh, line 1562: Called dyn_setup
ebuild.sh, line 665: Called pkg_setup
librsvg-2.14.4.ebuild, line 47: Called die

!!! cairo needs the png flag set

But this is my USE:

USE="X gtk gnome alsa dvb usb lirc nls cjk unicode png"

Is this not the right setting, then?

"Please re-emerge x11-libs/cairo with the png USE flag set"
Apparently you did not have png set when you last emerged cairo.
Code:
emerge -pv cairo

should show that it was -png.

Thanks - that seems to have helped me over that.

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads, refer to topic "Please re-emerge [solved]".

As noted in the handbook USE flags specified via environment variables are not retained as persistent settings so, aside from when a given USE flag setting is itself transient in nature, use one of the persistent USE flag setting methods (/etc/make.conf, /etc/portage/package.use). Also, note that USE flags are case sensitive.
