I've been happily running vmware player for months. Now ( after an upgrade ), if I run vmplayer as a user, it gives me an End User Licence Agreement ( which I hit 'Accept' to ), and then exits without error almost instantly. It runs as root though. What permissions do I have to change? _________________ David Hicks' plea. Was it:

Try completely removing it, then reinstalling. (make sure to delete the files left over because of CONFIG_PROTECT settings) Also make sure that your user is still a member of the vmware group. It should be since it used to work, but maybe it got messed up somehow. _________________

I have just upgraded vmplayer from portage and have this problem as well, but I have a little more information.
If, as a normal user, I run
The the system hangs after the license page.
But if I specify the vm image to run e.g.
| Code: | | ~ $ vmplayer -X /u0/virtual-machines/Windows_XP_Professional/Windows_XP_Professional.vmx |
the the system works as expected; No issues at all.
Like VanDan, I can run just vmplayer as root.
I am running app-emulation/vmware-player-1.0.2.29634 |

Upgrading to dbus 1.0.x solves this problem for me.
The same bug can be found in the ubuntu forum, but their problems are related to 2 versions of libdbus installed. |
