I want to compile Firefox with German language support, though I don't really want my whole system to have German support. I know I can use the package.USE file for use variables, but how do I make portage remember to compile Firefox with German support? Can I put that in my package.use file as well?? Thanks in advance.

When you "emerge -pv mozilla-firefox" doesn't it show various "lingua_??" variables with the USE flags? If so, you might try including the appropriate one in /etc/portage/package.use and then see if the "emerge -pv mozilla-firefox" output changes.

Yeah, that was my first instinct. So I tried,
Code:
USE="de" emerge --update --newuse mozilla-firefox

Which didn't work. I had to use:
Code:
LINGUAS="de" emerge --update --newuse mozilla-firefox

Which worked. So I tried what you said, and just added de, didn't work, I also tried adding LINGUAS="de" to package.use and that didn't work either. :-(
Thanks for the quick responce! Any other ideas?

You could try putting your LINGUAS setting in /etc/portage/env/www-client/mozilla-firefox . :)

Oh. Sorry about that. :oops:

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads in favour of that thread.
