Good afternoon,

I have a few of these slick T1000s sitting around the office, and im ready to start testing them out. I got solaris 10 on one, and since gentoo rocks, i want to get it on another one instead of ubuntu (not there is anything wrong with ubuntu, but I have been using gentoo for years and love it).

Anyways, Im having trouble with the netboot images that are being hosted from the link that is stickied in these forums. There are no cdroms on these units, so i have to boot from the net. The bootserver is running on solaris, tftpd. openboot is completely updated (4.23.4).

First image i tried was gentoo-sparc64-2005.0-20050717.tftpboot (found this first from info in the docs). Output follows.
Code:

Sun Fire(TM) T1000, No Keyboard
Copyright 2006 Sun Microsystems, Inc.  All rights reserved.
OpenBoot 4.23.4, 16376 MB memory available, Serial #70073536.
Ethernet address 0:14:4f:2d:3c:c0, Host ID: 842d3cc0.

Rebooting with command: boot net
Boot device: /pci@7c0/pci@0/network@4  File and args:
100 Mbps HDX Link up
Requesting Internet Address for 0:14:4f:2d:3c:c0
Requesting Internet Address for 0:14:4f:2d:3c:c0
Requesting Internet Address for 0:14:4f:2d:3c:c0

Second image i tried was boot.img from ubuntu and it worked fine. I was able to boot from the net and up and running with the ubuntu installer. I don't want ubuntu tho :)

Third time i tried gentoo-sparc-2006.0-20060219.tftpboot (found it in the sticky when i came to these forums). Output follows.
Code:

Sun Fire(TM) T1000, No Keyboard
Copyright 2006 Sun Microsystems, Inc.  All rights reserved.
OpenBoot 4.23.4, 16376 MB memory available, Serial #70073536.

Rebooting with command: boot net

On sun4u you have to use UltraLinux (64bit) kernel
and not a 32bit sun4[cdem] version

Program terminated

Are there any more recent netboot images available from gentoo that have been tested with the T1000/T2000s? They are sun4v instead of sun4u

Thanks much for any info!

Dee

Currently there aren't any Gentoo netboot images that work on the Niagra CPUs. I'm working (unfortuantely slowly) on fixing that.

Cool. I'll put up a posting on the forums when I have something to test.
