|
|
I notice that the new gcc-3.2.3-r1 build is masked by the line:
Code: |
>=sys-devel/gcc-3.2.2-r3
|
This entry was made on March 5, 2003
Was this meant to block all future versions of gcc past 3.2.2-r3? Is it valid anymore?

I too would like to know if there is a good reason 3.2.3 is masked. I hear it fixes the pentium4 bug... |

I'm quite happy that people who know way more than I are testing it thoroughly before unmasking it. Who wants to try an emerge -e world with a broken compiler?
I too have read that it fixes the P4 bug, so I'm trying to wait patiently... |

gcc has a bug when march=pentium4 is specified as the cpu to compile for. It's to do with sse instructions, I think. There are some threads here somewhere that go into more detail, including code that triggers the bug.
Just to stress, it's a gcc bug, not a bug with the P4 itself... |

Good Grief... I built my whole system from stage one with the buggy GCC 3.2.2 with -march=Pentium4. However, that said, it's been rock solid for the last couple of week of intesive use...
BTW, I found the original GCC 3.2.2 bug thread. |

mine's the same. I haven't seen any real problems except with one of the fractint packages, as well as one weird bug in kde when I relocate desktop icons, of all things. Rock solid, and no other weird behaviour noticed. |
