Ehh, that's a nxsty overlay ebuild, nothing changed from me, probally a -Bdirect error or something (the patch is automatically applied by it now), just do rm -r /usr/local/overlays/conrad/sys-libs, and emerge glibc-2.5 from portage, as it now has the hashstyle in it upstream afaik.

I'll fix it by this afternoon.

I had the same problem with portage's glibc-2.5 too, so i masked it until your's (al least nxty's) arrived with IG3.1, i hoped it's fixed.

I have one question, it dont be more correct:
Code:
#LDFLAGSHASHSTYLE=" -Wl,--hash-style=both"

instead of
Code:
#LDFLAGSHASHSTYLE=" -Wl,--hash-style=gnu"

?

Does it include GCC 4.2? or glibc 2.5? or XORG 7.1.1 and so on? what are the new things in it? and what kernel does it use?

We only want the GNU linking style.

Read the changelog!
No, yes, yes. It has always and will always use no-sources ;) (2.6.18-no2)
Changelog has the basic changes as well.

I'll see what I can do (Trying to reproduce it)

But I have one favor to ask, in your first reply to this thread, could you please delete the code and move it to a pastebin or other source? Only because it expands the width of the page, and this being the first page it is the most important to viewers. thanks :)

I'm going to reproduce it now, if portage's doesn't build, I'll blame it on one of the genpatches, and I'll be mad :-p

I'm also going back to --hash-style=both, so you can use that change. I was misdirected on how both was bad, but it really is best right now :-p

*EDIT*
reverted to hash-style=both

@tejeske
glibc 2.5-r3 from the overlay builds fine, no errors what so ever for me.

Try doing a -uD world, and make sure you update nss to the latest version.

You need to do that step still, yes ;)

2.6.19-rc2-no will be released as unstable, and not implemented into this guide soon.

btw, I don't necessarily endorse ext4, only because it isn't finished yet, wait for it to be more complete.

Dear User,
If you try this, please DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT FILING A BUG when the end result isn't what you expected. :D

I guess I'll enhance this message a little bit, but this is already there in fine print.

I sure hope that the user understand that this is an advanced installation method for gentoo linux, which is not supported or endorsed in any way by gentoo linux.

But as you requested, I made the message bigger and more visible.

you dont need to rebuild again, both is just the new linking style (gnu) and the old one if there are any problems with GNU, afaik.

do this for no-sources:
Code:
# rm -r /usr/local/overlays/conrad/sys-kernel/no-sources/files /usr/local/overlays/conrad/sys-kernel/no-sources/Manifest
# emerge --digest no-sources

If by advanced you mean utterly stupid and redundant.... sure.

ps i'm fairly sure that if you notice a slowdown while installing, its not xgl thats the problem, its portage shaking it's head at your silly cflags.

I'm fairly sure that a user representative promoting this is one of the scariest things I've ever seen, The majority of gentoo users are not this crazy.

ps i'm fairly sure that if you notice a slowdown while installing, its not xgl thats the problem, its portage shaking it's head at your silly cflags.

I'm fairly sure that a user representative promoting this is one of the scariest things I've ever seen, The majority of gentoo users are not this crazy.

First to call TROLL on this stupid and useless post! If you don't like it, don't do it.

Call me whatever you want... I don't really care

While I don't have to do it, I do feel obliged to point out to people the foolishness of doing it. Furthermore, the fact that it is a user representative pointing this out makes me worry that more people will think its safe, and therefore will cause lots more problems for gentoo users.

Ok, a few things wrong here
1) What slowdown while installing?
2) Why are you talking about XGL?
3) Did you ever read the GCC handbook about compiler parameters, obviously not, because you do not recognize the CFLAGS.

In response to #3:
Hey pal, if you've done your research, you'd see that my CFLAGS are the optimizations of -Os, with a few things from -O2, 2 things from -O3, and a few stuff from the grave.
So these crazy CFLAGS are really LESS optimizations than an -O2 or an -O3---- do your research buddy, and please don't troll like this  .[/quote]

My audience is not the majority of gentoo users, this guide is for whoever wants to use it, and I think it's made clear that this is not supported or endorsed by the gentoo linux foundation in any way, and it's stated to never post bugs to bugs.gentoo.org.

I also am updating with a statement that says how gentoo does not support the CFLAGS used in this installation.

Users who do try it know the risks, and they also know several people have installed it successfully, it is their choice whether to use this installation document or not, all the consequences are put out there for them to consider.
