Greetings.
The title is quite descriptive: is better a modular kernel than a monolothic kernel?
I know that a modular kernel saves memory, because unneeded stuff is unloaded, but the loading/unloading process spend time and resources. But I don't know if loaded modules are slower than in-built modules. Also, I don't know what things must I compile as a module and what things I must compile in kernel. I don't know neither how to control the autoloading/unloading of kernel modules.
So, what is better to a desktop/workstation computer with the usual desktop/workstation programs (internet, some games, office, some programming and scientific software...)?
Thanks for your help. _________________ I cannot write English very well. Please, correct any mistake so that I can improve. |
