It does, it's just that if it sees it's being loaded from a directory containing "netscape" in the path it does some internal magic to fix up some problems under Mozilla-based browsers, and those fixups break Opera. This is simply bad programming in Flash (a quick and dirty hack to fix something instead of carefully researching the problem and fixing the cause), but ah well...

Success!
Although I had to tweak the pluginpath.ini file a bit for it to work. But finally youtube is working!
Now only to wait till Opera comes in a 64bit version, then we can enjoy waiting for a 64bit flash version :P

Hi guys. None of this seems to work for Opera 9.50 Beta 1 and flash 9.0.60.0_beta100107. Got the links, got the setup for path and mime types, but it simply doesn't work. All I get is an empty spot on the place, where the flash applet should be.

Same problem here with Opera 9.50 Beta 2 and 9.0.60.0_beta100107, it works perfectly in firefox, but in konqueror there's a white block where the flash content should be (plug-in is detected it's listed in the plugin list, and no "getflash" error is displayed in the page), in Opera it seems to load, even the rightclick flash menu works, but the video playback is not started.

Check out this link

http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=206201

I was able to get flash working beautifully fullscreen button even works, though it just takes the full browser window instead of the screen but you can always hit F11 and it's the same thing. The only problem I'm having is mplayerplug-in not working : /

Hopefully that will get fixed by the final release

PS. if you need the 32 bit operapluginwrapper pm me and I'll put up a copy for you.
also instead of /usr/lib/opera/9.50-* look for the wrapper here /opt/opera/lib/opera/9.50-* (*=long number)

Yeah, all nice and fun, but I, for example, am not using AMD64 and the problem still remains. What to do then?

Your sig shows AMD Turion64 so I assumed you were. Guess that's what I get for making assumptions.

Sorry, I don't know about the 32 bit.

Yeah, corrected that already. For some time I was using AMD64, but I reverted back to 32 bit, because of AMD64 compatibility issues when it come to software (too much software hasn't been yet converted to 64-bits or works badly). So I'll stick with 32 bits for a while longer. Got to find a fix for the opera-flash issue. :P

Finally got flash working in opera.

I must warn that I have an athlon xp so I don't know if will work in amd machines amd64 machines.

What I did was simple, and it worked by chance,I was trying latest firefox 3.0 beta build,

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2007-11-06-18-firefox3.0b1/firefox-3.0b1.en-US.linux-i686.tar.bz2

I uncompressed it in my home dir and lauch it from there when it asked me to download and install a flash plugin I clicked ok, expecting not to work.It dl and installed flash plugin 9.0 r 48 wich was installed in my home dir. It worked!

The I opened opera and reescaned for new plugins, it detected the r 48 version from my home folder, and loaded fine, althoung youtube fullscreen videos did not worked.

So the solution is easy, install what firefox beta wants to install, which I supose is latest "stable" version.

Ok, guys. The method that wah_wah_69 described actually works!
Here's the step-by-step temporary fix on how to get flash working in Opera on x86.
1. Do emerge --unmerge netscape-flash (just to make sure).
2. Open Firefox (no matter what version, I've got 2.0.0.9).
3. Enter a site that needs to download the flash plugin.
4. Download the plugin using firefox (it will be placed in /home/your_login/.mozilla/plugins).
5. Open Opera, open Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Content, click the Plug-in Options button.
6. Select the flash plugin, then click Change Path.
7. Remove the paths that are listed there and add a new path pointing to /home/your_login/.mozilla/plugins, you should see the flash plugin in the listing.
8. Next, on the same tab (Advanced) select Downloads.
9. Check (edit) if the spl and swf extensions use the plug-in with the path pointing to the right directory (that is your_home_dir/.mozilla/plugins).
10. Restart Opera and enjoy. ;-)
(11. Eventually (if you did step 1.) emerge netscape-flash, so that you have it in other applications, that worked with it.)

Thanks wah_wah_69. :-)

EDIT: Ok, not 100% full-proof, sometimes can go grey and spoil the fun, but it's a lot better than no flash at all. ;-)

EDIT2: Don't try to shorten the workaround by simply copying the flash plugin .so from /opt/netsace/plugins. IT WON'T WORK. The bug seems to be in the newest flash plugin (as someone in this thread said earlier: it has some ugly, fast fixes in it). The version downloaded by Firefox plugin manager seems to work better.

Yes, I'm the guy who solved the mistery of the failing flash plugin.

And now comes the fame, the wealth, and the easy girls!

My Adobe Flash plug-in works fine on Opera, but it crashes a lot.
I got these messages from the dmesg:

It works without having firefox installed.

Extract the flashplayer tarball, copy libflashplayer.so and flashplayer.xpt to /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins, go to preferences, let opera scan for new plugins. It should find and register them.

Works for me with Opera 9.10 and the newest flash. Sometimes flash elements aren't displayed, if that happens, just reload the page.

Hope this helps somebody.

I'm having this same problem. Flash works in general, but I can't watch any youtube videos.
