Why installing X11 takes so long comparing to apt and debian where it takes a few minutes??
If I want a X11+fluxbox in debian I would do it in 30 minutes max and here a few hours ?? |

You are not installing it, you are building it, that's the way gentoo works, get used to it _________________ Linus Torvalds: "Really, I'm not out to destroy Microsoft. That will just be a completely unintentional side effect." |

Because Gentoo is source-based. Almost every app is compiled specifically for your unique setup.
The biggest advantage to compiling apps is that you get to choose the compile-time options, and apply patches to the source code (great for power users). The biggest disadvantage is the time it takes to compile apps. |
