Hello,

for some reason i don't know there seems no way of emerging coreutils >= 6.2, getting stuck during configure. When it gets to "Checking for working nanosleep...", it just hangs there without going on further, consuming no CPU cycles, so it seems to wait for something to happen. This first happened when coreutils-6.2 was available and to be emerged with some other packages by doing emerge -uvND world. This "effect" doesn't happen with any other packages, and my system works just fine.

This is from my last update/try to install the package (which i aborted via ctrl-c):

Code:

# emerge -uvND world
Calculating world dependencies... done!

On another box (running on x86_64/amd64, gentoo-sources-2.6.18, glibc2.4, gcc4.1.1 etc.) it just installed without problems.

I don't know why this is happening on my laptop and don't have a clue what could cause this or where i have to look for the problem. Also tried re-emerging glibc, but that didn't help either.

Does anyone know what could cause this?

TIA,
nst

This package is marked ~arch, and your make.conf contains ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" , so as the preacher said in Blazing Saddles:

Not anymore, he isn't...

I've got the same problem, upgrading from coreutils 5.94-r1 to 6.4, which is marked stable.

Edit: Problem solved, at least for me: I quit X and emerged coreutils on the command line instead of in a terminal window, and that worked.

Just tried what bitpicker did - stopped X (/etc/init.d/xdm stop) and retried emerging coreutils. Now it worked flawlessly, where it didn't a few days ago when coreutils-6.4 popped up.

On a sidenote, on my server running Gentoo stable (x86), there wasn't any problem updating when coreutils-6.4 was there. It doesn't has anything X/GUI-related on it, though... :)

I found out that stopping X isnt even required. All that is needed is to press eg F2 and login as root at a real console and emerge coreutils-6.4 works just fine.
