im new to gentoo im installing the base system and just did the emerge --sync. it then said to run emerge portage but when i do i get the following error

i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc: march=pentium-m: no such file or directory
i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc: -E or -x required when input is from standard input

!!! Error: sys-apps/portage-2.1.1 failed
Call stack:
ebuild.sh line 1539: called dyn-compile
ebuild.sh line 939: called src-compile
portage-2.1.1.ebuild, line 84 called die

!! Failed to build tbz2tool
if u need support post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant

is this because of my march=pentium-m setting in my make.conf file??
