ok I know there is tons of posts about this blocked package shadow and it conflicting with pam-login. I did and emere -u world which told me about blocked packages. then I emerge -C pamlogin then emerge utillinux shadow. then my system was just all messed up. lost the ability to shutdown everything. rebooted into live cd and try remerging shadow but still everything was and is still broken.
So I am reinstalling now and I guess my question is should I just stop shadow from installing so I can emerge -u world or try to attack this again? If atacking is option what and how sahll I do it? Thanks

once your done installing run
Code: | emerge -C pam-login && emerge -1 shadow |
the sticky pam-login thread is responsible for this |

essentially the 2006.1 cd uses the new shadow ebuild with pam-login allready in it. |
