|
|
I have a strange problem with Konqueror recently.
If I have multiple tabs open, it takes some (eternal) seconds between switching to anonther tab and being able to do something inside there. All other operations like file or web browsing inside a tab are fairly ok (except file search).
Now I thought this could have to do with an upgrade, since I just unmerged kde-env and upgraded to kde-libs-3.5.4-r2 with kde-base/kdebase-3.5.4-r1. But I just tested Konqueror with another user account on my machine, and it seems to be ok.
I have absolutely no clue what this behaviour could be caused by, as Konqueror has always been pretty fast for me.
Sombody has an idea? _________________ lxg.de – codebits and tech talk

This is a long shot, but I ran into a similar problem after a KDE upgrade a few months ago. I "fixed" it by going the the bottom selection of the Configure Konqueror menu, called "Performance". In there I selected "Minimize Memory Usage" => Never. It sounds paradoxical and it may not work for you but it is an easy thing to try. You could also try other memory usage settings if "Never" doesn't fix your problem. |

I'll go with BitJam on looking at your memory usage. On my system each extra tab uses ram. Depending on what websites are visited, that can be quite a bit of extra ram. Firefox is no better and may be worse. Opera is extremely good in conserving memory. |

Thanks for the "heads up" guys. I already had tried the memory option, but it didn't help. (Could have mentioned this, though.)
I was about to go mad about this, but I decided to investigate a bit before.
So I went to my ~/.kde3.5/share/config/ and saw that for some very weird reason the file konquerorrc had a size of over 67MB. It was full of lines with $$$$$$$ signs. I don't know if this is a message my computer or the KDE devs wanted to give me, or if it's just a weird bug in Konqueror. However, I deleted the file (editing was impossible), and now everything is back to normal. Just have to adapt my settings, but this will be a thankful labour after five days of watching Konqueror freezing each time I changed a tab. _________________ lxg.de – codebits and tech talk |
