I have a Gentoo system that I've had running for quite a while. I recently needed to rebuild the kernel, so I decided to give genkernel a try. The build works fine (doesn't give any errors), but when I go to boot the system it gets as far as loading the initramfs and just reboots, without giving any feedback about what the problem might be.
I tried upgrading to the latest kernel, and I'm getting the very same problem.
I'm completely out of ideas on this one, and searching the forums haven't turned anything up. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very grateful to hear them.
This is an SATA based system. From reading some of the forum posts I thought it might be a problem with the SATA drivers getting loaded as modules, so I went in (with genkernel --menuconfig) and compiled the SATA drivers in statically, which didn't seem to make any difference.

I don't know much about kernel issues, but do you have a boot loader installed? I recently had a problem with grub not recognizing my kernel location and name since I ran genkernel.
Do you have more then 1 hdd? and is it set up in a raid? |

The only reason I've come across for "just reboots" is when the kernel is compiled for the wrong architecture: something like an i686 kernel trying to run on a Pentium II. _________________ The avatar is jorma, a "duck" from "Elephants Dream": the film and all the production materials have been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License, see orange.blender.org for details. |
