PS/2 Mouse not working at all

Hey there. I know this is a common problem within configuration of Gentoo. I have Xfree installed, yet my PS/2 mouse fails to recognize. I've tried many things, but no avail.

in the Xree config, I set it to /dev/mouse, /dev/psaux doens't work
I've tried Auto, tried PS/2, tried Microsoft.

when I do an cat /dev/mouse nothing happens

it shows a linkage in ls /dev/mouse > misc/psaux

so I've tried /misc/psaux but still no go.

I've also disabled plug and play in Bios, and enabled PS/2 instead of it being on auto.

Does anyone have more suggestions
