Hello,

This is my first time using Gentoo. I've installed Linux i686 2.6.14-hardened-r8 and I would like to use Gnome. When I try to emerge Gnome, I receive this error:

Please re-emerge x11-libs/cairo with the png and X USE flags set

I double-checked my USE flags and both png and X are set! Please help!

Thanks in advance,

Josh

you might have set them after emerging cairo.
try
Code:

emerge --ask --verbose --newuse cairo

and make sure that both png and X don't have a '-' infront of them.

one more thing
to be sure you can do such thing:

emerge -pv cairo #see if those flags are enabled
emerge cairo

looks like last time you emerged cairo the X use flag was not set (you can tell by the *)

just run

Code:
 emerge cairo
and after that you can continue where you left off before this problem

Thanks aloT! That got me past that problem, but I've run into another one now. Here's what I have:

*
* sensors-detect requires CONFIG_I2C_CHARDEV to be enabled for non-2.4.x kernels.
*
*
* lm_sensors-2.10.0 requires CONFIG_I2C to be enabled for non-2.4.x kernels.
*

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Josh

Moved from Desktop Environments to Duplicate Threads, refer to topic "Please re-emerge [solved]".

As noted in the handbook USE flags specified via environment variables are not retained as persistent settings so, aside from when a given USE flag setting is itself transient in nature, use one of the persistent USE flag setting methods (/etc/make.conf, /etc/portage/package.use). Also, note that USE flags are case sensitive.
