I'm completely new to Gentoo, I actually haven't done my first install yet. Up until now I've been running Slackware but I'm switching now that I'm buying a new system. Having run Linux exclusively for over five years I'm not a newbie as such but Gentoo to me seems like a whole different beast none the less.

The system I intend to install Gentoo will have an AMD Athlon64 x2 v4600+ CPU and 2 SATA-II 250GB disks that I wanna run in a RAID 1 configuration since the motherboard, an Asus M2NPV-VM, supports this. And I intend to install a 64-bit Gentoo of course.

My questions now are basically these:

How shall I proceed with this install?
What should I think about and do before installing?
What kind of settings must I do during installation in order to get this to work smoothly?
Should I maybe consider getting a separate RAID-controllercard instead of using the motherboards built-in RAID-support?
And what possible problems might I experience (if any)?

Any and all tips and help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

The RAID modes that are supported by your motherboard's BIOS are for the benefit of the Windows RAID driver. You do not need BIOS support in order to do RAID with Linux. Just use the RAID drivers that are part of the kernel.

OK, but can this be configured during installation then? So that RAID 1 is enabled once I'm done installing I mean. If so, how or is that self-explanatory during installation?
