Hi,
Recently, when I install gentoo on a new PC when ready to configure the kernel I get menuconfig with a lot of faces around rather than borders for the main menu and other menues.
I have been adviced that this could be due to font problems.
Is it possible to understand what kind of font precisely menuconfig needs in order to run make menuconfig and see it properly?
If it is not a font issue, please advice me how to solve it.

Thank you,
Spiro

Is this when running it in a terminal, on one of the tty's, like doing Ctrl+Alt+F(1-6) or while in X, running something like xterm or something? It could be a font issue. You want the terminal fonts installed. Actually, I think you can install those *in* the kernel (they're in there somewhere). Make sure they're built-in to the kernel too. But there is some terminal fonts package also (search gentoo-portage.com).

did you fiddle around with utf8/unicode support after installing? i had trouble with curses apps (like make menuconfig) that seemed like this... or did you use cat /dev/something on that console before running make menuconfig?
