I just experienced this problem for the first time yesterday after months of having a stable i915 system. I tried to play a video file in mplayer and it crashed with exactly the same error. :(

After checking back through my emerge.log for possible clues I note that 7 days ago I upgraded the i810 driver:

Code:

i just upgraded my really old bios, so i was hoping that this solved the problem. I will repost if not.

EDIT: it appears my bios upgrade worked. so i will mark this post solved (at least for now).
