Hello, all.
I've just more-or-less finished installing Gentoo on my new system. When I try to boot, everything loads fine up until I get this error:
Code: |
/etc/host.conf: line 24: bad command `mdns off'
|
I seem to be able to log in with a terminal just fine after that, although I'm fairly certain I asked for an X windows session on startup. Is the error causing the computers loading process to stop, or is it something that I can safely ignore? _________________ Never assume a mistake is too elementary for me to have made it. |

Hi.
You can safely remove that line. It was a leftover from the system where the stage tarball was built. That shouldn't prevent X from starting. Are you sure that you remembered to run the following?
Code: | # rc-update add xdm default |
You can check that with rc-update show. _________________ Jorge.

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads.
[mod]I'm moving this thread to dupes in favour of this one.
If your problem with starting X persists, create a new thread about that in Desktop Environments.[/mod] _________________ Jorge.
