Hi, i've been trying to install gentoo for my first time and i'm getting an error. This error appeared after I did:

Code:

# emerge --update --deep world

After processing it automatically rebooted and since then i get:

Code:

This is gentoo.unknown_domain (Linux i686 2.6.17-gentoo-r4)

gentoo login:

gentoo is the name i set for the machine. When i want to log in as root or any user i just cant. I mean... i write 'root' and never asks my for the password, it just keeps saying 'This is gentoo.unknown_domain ...'

I've search for a solution in google but i couldn't solve it yet. To speed things up i write the contents of some files that people in similiar situations were asked for:

/etc/conf.d/domainname
OVERRIDE=1
DNSDOMAIN=""
NISDOMAIN=""

/etc/conf.d/hostname
HOSTNAME="gentoo"

/etc/conf.d/net
modules=( "dhcpcd" )
config_eth0=( "dhcp" )
dhcp_eth0="nodns nontp nonis"

/etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost

/etc/host.conf
order hosts, bind
mdns off
multi off

I don't know what else might be needed as this is my first time with gentoo and i don't have too much experience with linux. :(

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you very much for your time!

Moved from Networking & Security to Duplicate Threads.

[mod]Moved this thread to DT in favour of this one for the login issue and of this one for the mdns issue.[/mod]
