For all the other Gentoo users with Wacom tablets, I have a few questions.
1. Have you tried the drivers from The Linux Wacom Project? How do they compare to the kernel drivers?
2. Does anyone know if XInput support is built into the ebuild of GTK2? I had to hack mine, but was wondering if that was even necessary.
3. I know that Gimp1.3 is experimental, but has anyone managed to get their tablet working fully in 1.3? For me, Gimp recognizes the eraser and pen devices, but any attempts to use them cause it to error out, forcing me to kill it from a console.
Thanks in advance. _________________ -- The world is full of tough guys. It doesn't need me to be one too.

Hi,
I do have a Wacom USB tablet, but haven't tried the Linux Wacom project stuff yet. I did try the built-in ones, as well as some alternatives that float around on the net (I believe from SuSe). I could only make it work if I compiled it as a module, not built into the kernel.
Also, it worked kinda (no pressure control) in Gimp 1.2, but Gimp 1.3 crashed on me. I did have to add the --enable option for XInput when building Gtk and Gimp. I guess a USE flag for this would be a good idea.
Please let me know if you tried the Linux Wacom project stuff. Right now I don't have a chance to try it out, but I probably will in two or three weeks. |

i am currently setting up my Wacom Graphire for use with GIMP 1.3.14. i should have it ready within a few hours at most (i'm sure it wont be as hard as setting it up on FreeBSD). i'll try post a MINI-How-To in the forums. all in all, i still think that the Wacom-How-To at http://www.runkel-it.de/linux.htm should be applicable. that's where i got most of the info on how to set it up under FreeBSD. either way, be back soon |

I have the tablet working (if a little jittery) with pressure with Gimp 1.2. I was just curious to know if there are any stability problems or added benefits to using the drivers from the Linux Wacom Project.
I think I'm going to try using them this weekend. I may also see if that fixes Gimp1.3 + Wacom on my system. _________________ -- The world is full of tough guys. It doesn't need me to be one too. |

ok, i have my tablet working under GTK2 and GIMP 1.3.14. the pressure is not quite there. if i press harder, i expect it to be larger, but it isnt. mind you, i think this has something to do with me using a USB mouse and a USB tablet. i have to use the 'AlwaysCore' status, otherwise i dont think it will work. i will experiment a little soon, but for now it works well enough. even the tilt works fantastically under the ink tool. basically, i just followed the How-To i mentioned in my previous post, but instead of using input0 for both eraser and stylus, i used input1 for the eraser and input0 for the stylus. not to mention, i removed any mention of the wacom mouse and renamed the monitor, keyboard, mouse and gfx card to their appropriate references. another problem i have is that i do not get different id's for the eraser and the stylus, where i do under windows (using GTK+ apps). the driver has come a long way since i first used it (i saw it first at alpha12), but it's not quite up to the level of the windows or apple drivers. and until corel see a point in releasing painter (best paint app ever. period.) for linux, i dont think wacom will see the platform as seriously as the others mentioned. here's to hoping tho |
