Any one try WinXP VPN inside of VMware 3.2 on Gentoo?

I need to use WinXP's "Remote Desktop" feature over a VPN, and I want to do it from a Gentoo box. Another linux user told me they had major problems getting WinXP VPN to work inside VMWare on Debian. They said the VPN (not sure if it was the client or the corporate server) was somehow able to tell the machine was 'insecure' and would not connect. This was also several months ago.

Before I move my WinXP licsense from a real PC to a virtual PC, I hope to find out if it works. I loathe having to call Microsoft and ask for permission to move my, I mean *their*, OS to a new machine. Because if it doesnt work, I'll have to call and beg them again if I have to switch it back.

Or is VNC running good these days?
