New install - everything emerged, kernel compiled, just remains to run silo so that I can actually reboot this thing. System has two partitions: md0 (/), md1 (/swap).

I tried running silo in the chroot environment and get:
Code:

/etc/silo.conf appears to be valid
Fatal error: Could not open RAID device

A look through other threads suggests to me that I have to do this from my livecd environment, using:
Code:

silo -C /mnt/gentoo/etc/silo.conf -r /mnt/gentoo

...however, when I do this, I get:
Code:
/mnt/gentoo/etc/silo.conf: No such file or directory

Copying to the silo.conf to where I am in /root (in the ramdisc, I assume), the file _still_ cannot be found, whether specifiying a relative or absolute path.

Everyone else seems to be having success, but I am unable to determine the difference in what I am doing and what they are doing. Suggestions?

Second issue: I have scp'd my mdadm.conf off to another machine for safety, in case I have to reboot from the livecd. Is it adequate just to copy this back to /etc on the livecd system and then issue mdadm -R /dev/md0 (and the same for md1)?

__EDIT__

It seems that the -C flag is redundant when using the -r flag. Should be:

Code:

silo -r /mnt/gentoo

It still does not work (will not boot), but that's another issue...
