CONRAD LiveCD 1.0.0 | The Ultimate Production AND Install CD for Gentoo Linux
Goes great for installing The CONRAD Installation Guide
~~~~~
What exactly is the Conrad LiveCD? Why would I use it?
The CONRAD LiveCD is a LiveCD designed to be:
1) An alternative Gentoo Minimal Install LiveCD (no X on the CD)
2) Rescue CD
3) Reiser4-supported livecd, to install with or fix reiser4 partitions
4) An increased production CD, with a lot more programs and various things to increase productivity
5) A LiveCD that will let you do ANYTHING you can do in a X environment. (Multimedia: play songs and movies) (Instant Message: use any protocol with pork, centericq, naim, ekq, and more!) (Browse in FULL COLOR: With links -g you can browse through the FB to view full-color images) and much more.
6) The latest packages and kernel to ensure compatibility with all systems. (such as linux headers 2.6.17)
7) A minimal LiveCD that lets you utilize ndiswrapper in setting up your network.
8) A lot more, these are the main things
You might use it for entertainment while installing gentoo, you may use it for use of the reiser4 filesystem, you may use it for production whilist you have no gentoo installed (I use it for this, and get A LOT accomplished <-- most of THIS livecd was created in livecd 1.0.0-beta1 :idea:)
Changes > 1.0.0_beta
* Built from scratch using different methods and a different build script I wrote
* The LiveCD has GCC/libstdc++-v3, this fixes TONS of small problems in 1.0.0-beta1 (includes centericq)
* The LiveCD was built with -Os (not sure why I didn't before)
* The LiveCD is built with GCC 4.1.1
* Upgraded kernel to 2.6.17-gentoo-r2 (patches with reiser4, and a few drivers and such from -mm)
* Upgraded to linux headers 2.6.17 (from 2.6.16)
* Fixed ndiswrapper
* Added ACX/madwifi-ng/madwifi-ng-tools/zd1211/rt2x00/rt2500/ and several other wireless drivers
* Added EKQ messenger/ddrescue/aircrack
* Enhanced evms/dmraid/lvm2 support
* Updated to conrad fbsplash 2.0 (awesome)
* The LiveCD is only 10mb bigger with ALL of these changes
(I'm EXTREMELY pleased with this release, I saw MAJOR improvements over the beta, and I am feeling good about it
~~~~~
Regressions 1.0.0 (not according to plan)
* Is on squashfs rather than unionfs (I hope I can get genkernel devs to update unionfs from 1.1.4 (1.1.4 doesn't work on the newer kernels))
* I did it because I wanted the genkernel initrd because I didn't feel like integrating all the evms, lvm2, and dmraid stuff into my unionfs initrd, along with the fbsplash stuff.
* Forgot to put a ftp client on (I was planning on it, I don't know how I forgot)
* Forgot to build genkernel with my linuxrc (I think it's an overall improvement in boot time)
~~~~~
Download It!
NOTE: If you have a mirror you are willing to donate, I will appreciate it greatly!, I only have access to a couple of mirrors.
2) freigeist - for supplying elfenbeinturm.cc
Still Uploading to:
Mirror #1 - bfgraphics.net - my extremely slow incapable mirror
ISO: http://bfgraphics.net/conrad-livecd-1.0.0.iso
MD5: http://bfgraphics.net/conrad-livecd-1.0.0.iso.md5
It failed uploading to bfgraphics.net for some reason, so it's corrupt. Get it from joecool's mirror.
(torrent is coming soon)
And please please please do include Midnight Commander on the next release, because I feel like my one hand is missing :) especially when dealing with configs, overlays and so on. Even RIP Linux has MC.
Ok, I will add it to 1.0.1, coming soon, need to add ipw2200/2100-firmware, add an FTP client, and add MC :)
*EDIT, also adding kismet, moon-buggy, and rebuilding the initrd with my linuxrc script.
I'll upgrade the kernel on 1.1.0 (being released today, with unionfs and so on), when I do so, I'll make sure that this is enabled, it might be on 1.0.0 already, I'll just double check :)
scsi support has always been included ;)
@ amd64
After I get my new x2 I may get involved in making amd64 stuff
Would it be possible to include the rtl8180 wireless driver? Or is it already included?
I'm not too familiar with wireless drivers, but if that is in the vanilla kernel or gentoo-sources 2.6.17-r2 then it's in the livecd, if not, it will be in 1.1.
Never mind...the driver is really buggy. I tried booting with the SimplyMEPIS 6 CD, and it just went into an infinite loop. Whatever, I can just use ndiswrapper for my X-Micro sis162u. Speaking of which, what version of ndiswrapper is included on the conrad cd?
Also, I'm getting a dedicated server here in a month or so, and hopefully my business will explode and I'll be able to get a server farm for it, and I'd be more than happy to host the conrad ISO.
I believe the ndiswrapper version is 1.17, I may bump it to 1.21 for 1.1.0, which is hard masked.
One question...does the conrad CD support installing Gentoo offline (with no internet)? If not, it's fine, I can use ndiswrapper.
You can install without internet, but it will be hard, you'll need a seperate CD with kernel sources, stage3, base packages, etc.
Hey cheater, greate live cd (love the boot splash ;). One thing you included the ueagleusb in kernel for ADSL and thats great, but you didn't include the firmware (ueagle-atm) which makes it a bit useless.
