Hi
I've downloaded the Universal CD for sparc.. I burned it , put it in the CD-RoM drive and booted it
I went to OPB i wrote:
boot cdrom
Then I got:
Gentoo Sparc Linux InstallCD
But if I press enter, I get "You are running the second stage SiLO loader. blablablablabla ... [...] type "config" to see the SILO config file".
soo I wrote:
Code: | boot: gentoo [enter] |
Then I get:
Loading Initial ramdisk...
Fast data access MMU miss
{0} ok
is this due to the LiveCD 2006.0 or did I missed something ?
Thanks alot

Hi Phil,
See the posts further down with regards to that evil pixie called Miss MMU that also lurks inside my SB2000. I'm not 100% sure, but it seems to be a combination (feature) of OBP and SILO versions that refuses to boot ISO CDs (tried Aurora, Ubuntu etc. all meet the imfamous cow Miss Moo) Only my Solaris CDs boot OK. Do a tftp netboot and go on from there.

did the experimental cd from http://dev.gentoo.org/~gustavoz/sparc/experimental/ worked , Should-I try it?
If it doesn't work, How does work the tftp boot, I know i can "boot network" or something like this from OPB (i'll check the command when i'm back at the Sun) but how do I setup the server to tftp boot the sunrblade on it??
Is it really simple -- or do you recommend me a good howto that will works ?
Thanks

Hi Phil,
Like usual, weeve did a fantastic job. Yes, it boots fine. I have not had the chance to test further but it boots 100%.
There's several ways to do the netboot/tftpboot, depending on what OS you're booting from. I did the rarp and tftp server way. Go see http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-sparc-netboot-howto.xml

Too bad, on my sunblade 2000 i tried the 3 kernels and always get the same error...
Quote: | Allocated 8 megs of memory at 0x4000000 for kernel
Loaded kernel version 2.6.16 (same thing for the others)
Illegal instruction .. |
Is the MMU Miss error related somehow with the Livecd 2006 ?
Should I try 2005.0 ?
Netbooting would be real hard here ..
