Code:

links gentoo.org

Navigate to 'Mirrors' in the side column, then choose whichever ftp server you want. Now find the stage tarball you want, and if you've already done that, find the portage snapshot you need. It's all here:

If you're connected to the Internet, just emerge the packages you want from within the chroot. If you followed the instructions this far emerge will download all distfiles it requires.
If you're not connected to the Internet, then you are using the wrong installation medium.

i am connected and downloaded the stage three tarball and the portage snapshot. i am just unable to download all of the distfiles unless i do them one at a time. so it isnt necessary to download all of them at the time of install? when i emerge different files, they will be downloaded accordingly? thank you for your quick reply.

You dont need to download the distfiles. You can carry on with your install.

The distfile folder holds the install files that emerge will use when trying to install a package. For instance, if you want to install amarok, emerge will download the amarok.tar.bz2 archive file from a server, and put it in /usr/portage/distfiles then unpack and install.
