Hello All,

I just upgraded gnome to 2.14 the other day and now there are no icons on my desktop. Right-clicking does nothing as well. Everything else seems to be working just fine. I have, since the upgrade, rebooted and done a complete etc-update, to no avail. Any ideas?

PS I also recently upgraded to GCC 3.4.

You can try to set up another icon theme : Desktop -> preferences -> Theme
& verify you have process gnome-settings-daemon running and x11-themes/gnome-icon-theme package installed

Check if nautilus is running. If it is, try killing the process and starting it again. If it isn't running, start it and see if the icons and right click menu appears again.

Starting it from a terminal could help you locate problems, if there are any.

Damn...in gconf-editor

/apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop

was set to 0. I'm positive I didn't manually change that manually. Weird shit.

Anyways, thanks for your responses, especially crudh, your suggestion got me thinking about nautilus, which ultimately solved the problem.

:)
