I'm trying to install Gentoo, but I didn't get farther along then step 3. I don't know what network card module.
Can someone help me????

Further more, I'm behinda a firewall/HTTP proxy, how do I specify one.
I've searched for it in Tips & Tricks and there is some talk of HTTP_PROXY but not how to specify it.

Hope you guys can help me

Jonas

Thanks.

I tried both.

Lastly I tried tulip and it seemed to work.

But I became stuck in the installation because I didn't specify a http proxy.
How do I do that???

OK, I've found out how to set the proxy( I think), "set RSYNC_PROXY="hostname:port" in /etc/make.conf".

Of course it was in the manual RTFM.

But I've been unable to find which network card module I'm supposed 2 use, that tulip one doesn't seem to work.

My ethernet adapter is an Accton EN 2242 thingy.

Please help

yours
Jonas

Little troubleshooting tip; "thingy" is never helpful when trying to diagnose a problem. :)

Could you please post the exact make and model of your ethernet card?

Also, have you searched Google for that make+model number?

www.linux-laptop.org is a good place to get some info on laptops.

More specifically I did find this page that says the tulip driver needs tweaking for your hardware: http://www.math.u-bordeaux.fr/~depouill/XE3/#net

I got it, the tulip driver, to work when emergin. So far so good.

But when I came 2 the stage when I was supposed to edit /etc/hostname, which by the way isn't there, I didn't know what to write.
I'm under www.auc.dk so what am I supposed to write.

And in /etc/host I'm supposed to write my IP but I use dhcp, what am I supposed to do there.

I marked the ethernet driver before compiling the kernel, but it doesn't load when I restart. And now I can't emerge. Any thoughts??

Thanks for the suggestion

Jonas
