How do I improve the quality of my TV-out? The consol is fuzzy and barely readable. Whe KDE comes up it is fuzzy also and the fonts are barely readable. I am using the new Nvidia drivers with 400MX GPU card(I think). Works great on a monitior, but TV-out just sucks. _________________ "Welcome to the Pleasuredome" -- Frankie Goes to Hollywood |

Your TV has a much lower resolution than your computer's monitor. It is normal for the text to be fuzzy. TV-out is best used for if you want to turn your PC into a tivo or dvd player,, also pretty cool with games. Not very practical for checking email and such. I'm not sure how it works with HDTV, but I'd imagine it'd be more readable.
I haven't tried it out yet on linux, but with windows its the same deal.
One solution might be to lower the resolution you're using. |

IF it's an MSI geforce, then theres nothing you can do... the video out on MSI cards is horrible; it pisses me off to no end because I have to swap on my ATI AllInWonder every time I want to do TV out. |

Wow, how did you get your All-In-Wonder to get TV out? I have one and have never managed to get the thing to work?
I assume that you are talking about one of the newer ones, not the rage3d older things? |

Heh I cant get it to work in linux either (and I tried). Its a Rage 128 AIW, but I have to boot into windoze (ack) to use it. Thats pretty much the only reason I keep windows on my computer still. |

with these old ati rage cards (got a 3d rage pro) you can get tvout by using the framebuffer. use vesafb with something about 800x600x16. also X works for me, with the fbdev driver. for playing dvds you can use xine oder mplayer, both support (x)vidix for acceleration on my ati card. there also these gatos drivers which provide XV extensions, but i never managed to get tvout working with these drivers. also gatos has some drivers for video capture with all in wonder boards. |
