I've created a new e-build... there is a new forum thread for it now in the unsupported section:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-519558.html

It isn't very good to use those patches if building with current cvs, you never know when it's going to break.
That's why my repo contains two ebuilds :)

yeah i know the gentoo e-build rules frown upon live cvs ebuilds..... but this is a starting point.... it would be nice to get this app integrated into the distro like it is in Redhat/Sled/&Ubuntu

you know i didnt even realize till now that you maintain that overlay... sorry i didnt want to step on your feet... keep up the overlay, i will send you my additions if you want.... is your overlay in layman? i updated the most of the patches you made to work with the cvs build as of today... the places patch didnt work but I was able to make the changes to get the menulabel patch to work

im also workin on some other tweaks that I can PM you about if you are interested

Hi, i don't mind at all :) No, the overlay is not in layman. I've fixed and made some changes to the patches not working.
Sure i'm interested in all tweaks making it better :)

ok cool, however, for people to really start using gnome-main-menu its gonna have to be in layman (thats not my requirement but it makes the lazy people and the people afraid of doing a manual overlay happy). if its gonna go in layman the overlay should just be for gnome-main-menu since all the other deps i think already in portage, this will make it easier to figure out whats needed to get the ebuild into portage. lastly, this is unsupported so we should move this convo and any more posts about the ebuilds to the other sub-forums

well, it is all cvs as I can see it. why doesn`t somebody want to have an ebuild with patches and the rpm?

so you don`t need the autogen patches and you have a stable version like in sled.

btw. the logo looks quite nice :D

Guys. What is the best way to get this menu at the moment. It's a little unclear from this thread, it seems like the Gentopia overlay's ebuild isn't working, and there are two people here with an alternative overlay.

Where should I get the new menu from??

Cheers,
jcat

Made an extra inital ebuild of the only release made (http://jimmyk.org/gnome-main-menu/).

thnx. works perfect. so I can rid of cvs ;>

i wanted to apply that icon patch, unfortunately the tar.gz slab is too old for it. i also like the idea of an user icon.

if it is possible the normal way is to use the gentoo logo and if you enable it in gconf you can have an user picture.

very nice your work :D

well, I tried to compile gnome-main-menu without avahi and it works.

i think it would be cool to make avahi to an useflag, so that ppl can decide to use it or not. :)

hello,

i'm using the xeffects overlay to try to get the gnome-main-menu working (after reading several threads on the subject). but i seem to have a compiling problem:
Code:
>>> Compiling source in /var/tmp/portage/gnome-main-menu-9999/work/gnome-main-menu ...
/usr/local/layman/xeffects/gnome-extra/gnome-main-menu/gnome-main-menu-9999.ebuild: line 58: eautoreconf: command not found

!!! ERROR: gnome-extra/gnome-main-menu-9999 failed.
Call stack:
  ebuild.sh, line 1546:   Called dyn_compile
  ebuild.sh, line 937:   Called src_compile
  gnome-main-menu-9999.ebuild, line 58:   Called die

!!! eautoreconf failed
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant.

!!! This ebuild is from an overlay: '/usr/local/layman/xeffects'

i thought eautoreconf was part of autoconf, so i re-emerged autoconf automake and libtool. all whithout any result. what could be the problem?

greetz,

wimbo

Now it is failing on intltool. I have tried versions of intltool back to 0.34.1. Currently on 0.35. Still it fails.
