Hi,
I want to buy a new laptop but i dont know anything about linux support in the laptop segment. my favourites are ibm and apple but my price limit is something about 1500 which knocks out apple
are the lenovo thinkpad series (especially the ones with intels core 2/ single duo) supported by linux in all their acpi functions? and whats about laptops with amd processors. do they have a low energy usage too?

I was planning on buying a Dell Inspiron 9400, until Dell suddenly decided to switch the videocard in that notebook to a stupid Ati Radeon X1400 with HyperMemory then I changed my mind, just make sure you buy a notebook with either Intel Graphics (if low-end is fine) or a Nvidia Geforce videocard, because ATi videocards suck in linux. |

Greetings, Oliver | According to a quick google search, 1500 Euros = $1918.72. You can easily get a Macbook for that. See here. Unless they hugely charge extra in other countries.
You are looking at the right brands, btw, IBM and Apple are supposed to be the most reliable, and both have good linux support.
I would suggest the Macbook. OS X is a beautiful OS, very easy to use, and UNIX based with all the commands you are used to (except of course portage commands... but that might be fixable). You can download Bootcamp and use that to set up a Linux install. _________________ last.fm
