|
|
I've just installed Gentoo from stage 3 on a new computer - over a modem!
I do not have X installed yet, only wvdial, lynx and vi.
When I run the above command, everything seems to work ok in the shutdown procedure, and at the end I get a message 'Power Down'.
It simply stops there, at that point I have to manually turn off my machine. How do I make it switch itself off?
Thanks. _________________ [LRU] |

I think you have to enable APM or ACPI in the kernel. _________________ I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it. |

I see. I wasn't sure whether I enabled those or not, although I think I did choose something related. Can someone tell me whether it is ACPI or APM? Also, (from memory because I'm at work now) what should I choose in the sub-menus?
Thanks. _________________ [LRU] |

Try searching, this has already been discussed.
You might start here
btw I simply enabled APM (only APM, no options under it). _________________ I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it. |

On my box I need to enable realmode BIOS shutdown call under APM options in kernel menuconfig to have my box shutdown properly on "halt". It might be worth a try for anyone having problems with shutdown. |

On three machines I tried it on (Abit KR7A, Dell PIII, Old P75Mhz ) the following kernel additions worked a charm:
Code: | General Setup --> Power Management support
General Setup --> Power Management support --> APM BIOS support
General Setup --> Power Management support --> APM BIOS support --> Enable PM at boot time |
I built them all in. |

Thanks, I'll be able to work through this again now.
I did do a search, but it didn't come up with that one:!:

Off topic, but:

AMD Athlon XP 2600+
128MB MSI GF4 x8 AGP Ti4800SE-VTD |
OMFG! I have the same config apart from the fact that my graphics is 4600. And, not to mention, the exact same problem
