Hi all,

I'm getting no sound in any of my games after installing xmms. I'm not getting any error messages from the games themselves either. xmms seems to work fine and plays anything I throw at it. So I ran a strace from a few games and here's all it turned up.

read(5, 0xbffff76c, 32) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable)

I got that message from 3 different games, I'm thinking that might be it. But then I have no idea how to fix it. All my modules load fine. Any suggestions?

xmms may be occupying the sound device. Do a ps and kill xmms if it's still there after you have closed it. That works for me.

I know in if you use EsounD as your output, it will start up the EsounD daemon (esd). You will need to tell esd to release your soundcard. To do this use the command 'esdctl standby' or 'esdctl off' (Note: you'll have to run 'esdctl on' to get ESD working again if you use 'esdctl off')

Hey did you check the output plugin in preferences?? Just try another one, or if you don't see any, emerge some like arts, oss and esd (emerge -s xmms)

Good luck! :D
