Hello all

I've installed gcc 4.1.1 and after that run
Code:
revdep-rebuild -X --package-names

which complains that
Code:
broken /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.1/libgcjawt.la (requires /usr/lib/lib-gnu-java-awt-peer-gtk.la)
broken /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.1/libgij.la (requires /usr/lib/libgcj.la)

At first I let revdep-rebuild reemerge gcc-4.1.1 and afterwards for curiosity's sake reran
Code:
revdep-rebuild -X --package-names

Result: the same complaint...

lib-gnu-java-awt-peer-gtk.la and libgcj.la are present but in
Code:
/usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.1/

not
Code:
/usr/lib

Should they have been copied to - or a link made available in - /usr/lib ??? or is the problem in the searchpath for these in the broken libraries ???

Thanks for your help

Ben

I get this, too.

I don't know what causes it, but fixing it manually will get clobbered with a remerge of GCC 4.1.1

Of course, if this is the only thing that bothers you with a revdep-rebuild, I guess you could just update the file yourself (just open it in a text editor and change the path) and avoid rebuilding GCC for now, but I'd honestly like to know why this happens.

(making a link in /usr/lib is not the solution; if you still use GCC 3.4, it has its own version of these libs, and I'm pretty sure remerging that would clobber those, too)

This has been discussed in topic: "Persistent revdep-rebuild issues: gcc and libgcj.la".
