I have emerged pine-maildir and I can't seem to get it to actually use ~/.maildir. Pine always wants to create ~/mail if it isn't there and dosn't display any mail. Kmail seems to read everything ok.

To anyone that cares heres what I have determined...

there are two choices for using pine

emerge pine or
emerge pine-maildir

As of this post the pine-maildir package uses pine version 4.33 and has a unstable marked 4.50 version.
The main pine package uses the current version 4.53 but has no support for maildir. A older ebuild exists for 4.50 which apparently includes a maildir patch which is applyed if the use variable is set to "-mbox maildir". The current build does have an added modification that look for the global pine configuration files in a more sensable place ( /etc rather than /usr/local/lib/ ). Since the maildir patch dosent work with the current pine ebuild I have modified the old 4.50 pine ebuild to add the /etc modification to it and used it to build a pine4.50 that supports maildir and looks for configuration files in a nice place. When a current pine maildir patch becomes available I will most likely upgrade.
