|

HI all,
I have an ultrasparc 10 machine. It was working fine with kernel 2.4. Now with kernel 2.6.16-r9, I am having some issues.
First, the boot is starting in an odd manner. The cursor scolls on the monitor for a while, and then the messages start appearing. The problem is the arbit font type and the white background. Now there are some font errors in the middle with something like, error setting font, PIO_ ..something error.
After the boot is complete, the keyboard doesn't work. Some funny looking characters appear when i press keys. Basically I can't login on the machine physically. ssh works fine.
kindly help me out.
Also, the 2.4 has stopped booting. It shows some fsck error. The fs being ext3. So I can't use the 2.4 either. The kernel config is available here
thanks

i don't know about your font and filesystem problems, but the keyboard trouble is normal.
it's basically impossible to have the same keyboard maps for 2.4 and 2.6 kernels.
as 2.6 maps sun type x keyboards to the unified input subsystem, you have to use a generic keymap (like sg in my case).
browse the forums for more info on this (see the stickies) |

Hi,
thanks for your reply. I removed consolefont from the boot level and the keyboard is working fine. I'll try the xorg changes and post here. There is one more issue, about which, I couldn't dig up anything. The sluggish response that I am getting from the system. The things get drawn really slowly while it is in the text mode. The text to X transition is really slow. It writes things line by line (I hope I am being clear here! ) and then moves to X.
When I login remotely also, the same thing is happening. The response comes a little while later lots of times. What could be the reason for this?? The hard disk performace is the same as before, so that can't be the reason.
also, how can I get the framebuffer working here??
thanks

Depends on the framebuffer. What is in your system? |
