Heres the error:-

Instruction DUMP: da5ac000 ce02e00c 86028001 <c488c3a0> c20b400
0 8408a0ff 8600e001 80a04002 1240001c
[ 17.117500] Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

Heres the silo.conf:-

# Example of how can be silo.conf set up
partition = 1
root = /dev/sda1
timeout = 120
#password = __put_your_password_in_cleartext_here__
#restricted
image = /boot/gentoo64-default
label = gentoo64-default

Any ideas?

The kernel doesn't seem to be able to find the disk. Most likely it's missing one or more drivers.
Make sure you've included the scsi driver for your controller in the kernel.

Yes. That was it. I've now added all the scsi drivers, even the low level ones.

Trouble is some of the low level drivers cause kernel compilation errors which is extremely annoying !!!!

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Gentoo on Sparc.
You may have better luck getting an answer here.

What's the complete error message, kernel version, ?
There's nothing to see with that info.

I think I found the right low-level scsi driver now...

I've recompiled the kernel and I'm giving that a try. I'll let you know how I get on.
