I'm trying to install gentoo on an emonster 600 and the system will not recognize the mbr of the installation cd (it seems to be windoze-only). I was told by eSupport that I have the latest BIOS (earlier versions did not support linux) and I have seen (in linuxQuestions.org for example) postings indicating people have installed linux on these things. Why not Gentoo?
Any ideas? Maybe there is a better place to get the BIOS?
Thanks for any help,

In your BIOS, did you make your CD drive bootable before your hard disk?
Is your install cd burnt from an image? |

the bios was upgraded using amifauto (ami bios flash update tool) using a floppy booting from dos6.22 (headache!)
the current version is 1.13 for napoli2 (korean motherboard)
the bios is set to look for floppy, then cdrom, then ide
the cd rom was burned yesterday from a gentoo mirror (install cd 2006.0) and was md5 checksummed to make sure it works
the message I get when trying to boot (after removing the floppy of course):
Searching for Boot Record from CD-ROM..Not Found
Any ideas? |

Properly burned Gentoo CD definitely has a boot record. There must be something wrong with your burning methods. |

The disk is fine. It boots up just fine in my Dell Workstation and IBM laptop. |

i have no idea what an emonster could be, but if it is what it sounds like, may a scsi cdrom be attached and the bios of the controller is not capable of booting it? |

Yes! Thank you!
The machine is an eMachines eMonster 600 (and what a monster it is!). It turns out the CD/DVD player that comes with the machine is non-standard and will not boot from the BIOS. So I used a different CD-ROM drive and it went fine. Sweet. OK, now to install gentoo...
Thanks again. |
