I've compiled the development-sources kernel 2.5.65 but it panics on boot with the error that I've specified SSE2 but my cpu doesn't support it. What's this all about? When I've googled and searched the forums, it seems like SSE2 isn't all that cutting-edge a tech.
indeed, CONFIG_X86_SSE2=y in /usr/src/linux-beta/.config, despite several efforts to comment that line out, make xconfig puts it back.
there's no sse line of any kind in /usr/src/linux-2.4.20/.config.
the hardware is a dell latitude c400 (1.2gHz P-III Mobile) that runs gentoo-sources 2.4.20 swimmingly.
Ideas? thanks in advance - wylbur |

The PIII does not support SSE2 (these are additional instructions). It only supports SSE.
in the kernel configuration you need to select PIII as the CPU
In make menuconfig for processor type and features
go to the processor family and select PIII (coppermine)
then rebuild the kernel and try again.

thanks, that worked. now I've got another layer of issues with the beta kernel. That's a new message when I have more time. Thanks again - wylbur. |

Hello,
I just tried to install mm-sources and received the same message, accept I did change the processor to "Athlon" and it still said that I compiled the kernel for SSE2. Is it using my make.conf file? If not how do I compile the kernel without SSE2.
Thanks |
